thunder and...

Hello again. I figured I might as well properly introduce myself. My name is Valanie. Don't worry if you've never heard it before, it's totally made up. I'm from the state whose bottom half is shaped like a mitten, which is appropriate because winter is not kind to us.  It's also the only state made up of two peninsulas almost completely surrounded by fresh water. Whoever guessed from all my ambiguous clues that I'm from Michigan you get a cookie! Well, not literally because I do not have any cookies.

I heard a song on the radio the other day. I thought it was that Adam Lambert guy. I'm still not sure. I don't remember how the song went.

Hey, an anecdote. So today as I was cleaning up the remnants of last nights bonfire the sky started growing dark. And I mean, DARK. The Western sky was a deep charcoal gray and the wind started picking up. Terrified, I'm scrambling around to put all the folding chairs back in their bags and frantically searching out the marshmallow pointy cooker things. I get everything cleaned up and head inside thinking the rain will start any second. But...it doesn't. And I'm waiting. And waiting. And just when I've about given up on waiting for rain...BLAMMO. THUNDERRRR. Oh and also some rain, but not nearly as much as I expected.

That really wasn't a very effective anecdote...

Oh look, a gritty webcam picture of a plushie...

It's Raphael the Raven from Yoshi's Island. I didn't actually play the game, but my nephew was last night and he got annoyed when I kept going "Awww" at all the adorable villians in that game. This is an example of my impulse crafting. I think this little guy turned out rather well. I'm not sure I could stay focused long enough to draw up a pattern for him though. I might try. I could definitely handle having a few of these sitting around.

a quick word of greeting

I've never been one for keeping up a blog. I guess I've never felt that creative or unique. Who would want to read what I wrote? You can blame this blog on Save The Words. I was browsing a page of poor discarded lexemes when I came upon

"Speustic-adj.
made or baked in haste"

and suddenly I had found my soul-word, if such a thing exists. My life is a constant experiment, trying out patterns I find online, creating and recreating with the materials I find lying around. I have literally hundreds of hastily started projects that never seemed to reach completion, and far less that have.

So this blog will be dedicated to crafts, projects, whims of mine that happen instantaneously and are over just as fast. Readers can expect crochet, cross stitch, plastic canvas, sewing, quilting, cooking, jewelery, beads, glue, fiberfill and multitudes of other things I find and say to myself "Well, I can do that." They can expect new words, random posts and should expect some glorious failure on my behalf.

So if you have ever searched the internet and decided that you absolutely must make a diorama of the TARDIS control room out of seed beads and crepe paper or embroider a large brightly colored flower on the back of your denim jacket, you'll fit right in. Join me in my madness.
